The Uganda Federation of Movie Industry (UFMI) held a successful two-day Board Retreat from 20th to 21st June 2026 at Signature Hotel in Jinja, attended by key stakeholders to discuss better leadership, governance, and compliance in the creative sector.
The retreat provided a platform for board members and partners to reflect on the organisation’s growth and strengthen systems that support the effective management of the movie industry.
The Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB) presented on the responsibilities of Collective Management Organisations (CMOs) under copyright law and explained its role as the regulator, ensuring proper copyright administration, compliance, and the protection of creators’ rights.
The presentation was delivered by Senior Registration Officer, Mr. Lutuunda Ronald, who highlighted the importance of CMOs understanding their legal responsibilities in protecting creators’ rights, promoting compliance, and ensuring proper management of copyright works.
Other key speakers included Akeca Pius, Chief Executive Officer of Foundations Leads Ltd (FLL), who focused on strengthening governance, accountability, and compliance within organisations.
The retreat also attracted participation from important partners, including representatives from the Uganda National Cultural Centre (UNCC), Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development, and other stakeholders in the creative industry.
URSB continues to work with CMOs to improve transparency, accountability, and effective copyright administration in Uganda.
