The Registrar General of the Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB), Ms. Mercy K. Kainobwisho, has called on entrepreneurs to embrace artificial intelligence (AI) and emerging technologies to drive business growth and innovation.
She made the call while receiving the Public Sector Trendsetter Award at the 7th Business Trendsetters’ Forum, Trends Expo and Awards Gala held at Sheraton Kampala Hotel on Wednesday 29 July, 2026.
The forum and awards gala were held under the theme, “People, Purpose, and Artificial Intelligence in Business,” comprising leaders, innovators, and entrepreneurs to explore how emerging technologies are shaping the future of business.
Ms. Kainobwisho was recognised for her leadership in driving digitisation, strengthening public institutional excellence, and positioning Uganda as a regional hub for innovation and the formalisation of records. She successfully met the forum’s 4T criteria of Trend, Transcendent, Transferable and Tradable innovations.

While addressing participants, she noted that technological advancements have transformed how people live and do business, urging entrepreneurs to adapt or risk being left behind.
“Technology is constantly evolving, and so must our businesses. Those benefiting from artificial intelligence today are those that have embraced it. We cannot run away from technology. Entrepreneurs must leverage AI and other emerging technologies to improve productivity, expand their markets and remain competitive,” she said.
She also highlighted Uganda’s enabling environment for innovation and business growth.

“Uganda has the best legal framework and policy formulation that support innovation and entrepreneurship. We have the institutional infrastructure, a youthful and talented population, and the right policies in place. There is no excuse not to utilise these opportunities and emerging technologies to thrive,” she added.
The forum concluded with the Trendsetters’ Awards Gala, celebrating outstanding achievers across the public and private sectors, youth innovators and lifetime achievers whose work continues to inspire innovation and excellence in Uganda’s business landscape.
