The Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB) has introduced a monthly Declutter Day aimed at improving cleanliness, efficiency, and organization across its offices. The initiative, announced in an internal memo dated April 16, 2026, will see all staff participate in tidying up their workspaces on the last Friday of every month.
The move follows observations made by the Registrar General and top management during routine office tours. These visits revealed concerns such as scattered documents, unattended files, worn-out storage cabinets, and broken furniture, all of which were affecting the working environment.
According to the memo from the Directorate of Finance and Administration, the new initiative is designed to promote a culture of orderliness and professionalism. By removing unnecessary items and properly organising records, staff are expected to create a more functional and comfortable workspace.
The Records and Information Management Division will oversee the exercise, supported by designated Declutter Champions from each department. These champions will guide teams and ensure adherence to clear desk and screen policies.
Staff have been encouraged to actively take part and work together to maintain clean and organised offices. Management believes the initiative will not only improve the physical environment but also boost productivity and teamwork.
