The Department of Insolvency and Receivership is participating in pre-visit engagements under the regional expansion programme of the International Development Law Organization (IDLO) Business Recovery Advisory Programme (BRAP) across Eastern Uganda.
The engagements were conducted in the cities of Mbale, Tororo, and Jinja, bringing together key stakeholders including District and City Commercial Offices, business associations, and small-scale entrepreneurs.
The primary objective of the meetings was to introduce stakeholders to the upcoming BRAP regional activities and to raise awareness about insolvency and business recovery frameworks available to entrepreneurs.
The programme is designed to support struggling businesses by providing practical guidance on restructuring, recovery options, and formal insolvency procedures that can help enterprises regain stability.
During the engagements, stakeholders expressed strong interest in the initiative and welcomed efforts aimed at strengthening business resilience within the region. Representatives from commercial offices and business associations pledged to mobilize their members to participate in the forthcoming regional sessions to ensure that more entrepreneurs benefit from the programme.
Discussions also highlighted several challenges affecting small businesses, including limited awareness of available legal recovery mechanisms, financial distress arising from market fluctuations, and difficulties in accessing professional advisory services.
The pre-visit engagements mark an important step toward expanding business recovery support to entrepreneurs in Eastern Uganda, while strengthening collaboration between URSB, local government structures, and the private sector.
