Celebrating Innovation & Women in Leadership: Registrar General Visits Next Media Park, Highlights Innovation and Copyright Law

The Registrar General, Ms Mercy K. Kainobwisho, last week visited Next Media Services at Next Media Park in Naguru, where she was received by Chief Executive Officer Kin Kariisa.

During the visit, Ms Kainobwisho was taken on a guided tour of the Park’s innovative broadcast and production spaces that continue to shape Uganda’s modern media landscape.

She commended Next Media Services for its investment in innovation, quality programming, and content that reflects the country’s growing entrepreneurial and creative spirit. She noted that such efforts contribute to national development by supporting local talent and industries.

Ms. Kainobwisho also engaged the team on the recently passed Copyright and Neighbouring Rights (Amendment) Bill, 2025. She explained that the law will strengthen protection for creators, broadcasters, and producers, improve enforcement, and ensure fair value for creative work.

The proposed amendments are expected to enhance enforcement of copyright, safeguard creative works, and ensure fair value for content creators and media houses that invest in quality production.

During the visit, she also shared her leadership journey on the People & Power programme on NBS Television as part of International Women’s Month activities.

She said strong institutions and partnerships are key to supporting innovation, entrepreneurship, and the growth of Uganda’s creative sector.
