URSB Joins WIPO in Celebrating Global IP Examiners’ Day

The Uganda Registration Services Bureau on November 11, 2025 joined the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and other intellectual property offices across the globe to celebrate the instrumental work of Intellectual Property (IP) Examiners. The day spotlighted the professionals whose diligence, precision, and expertise safeguarded the integrity of the global IP system and powered innovation across industries.

Every year, IP examiners handle and determine over 20 million applications worldwide, ranging from patents and trademarks to industrial designs and geographical indications. Their precise assessments ensure that only genuine, original innovations are protected, upholding the quality and trust that form the foundation of international IP frameworks.

According to WIPO’s World Intellectual Property Indicators 2024 report, global patent filings exceeded 3.5 million, while trademark applications surpassed 15 million, reflecting a growing demand for innovation protection. These numbers highlight the critical role examiners play in fostering creativity, technological advancement, and economic growth.

URSB used this celebration to recognize its dedicated examiners whose commitment and professionalism drive Uganda’s IP excellence. The Bureau reaffirmed that investing in examiner capacity building and digital transformation remained central to improving service delivery and promoting a robust innovation ecosystem.

As URSB joined the global community to honour IP examiners, the celebration reinforced Uganda’s determination to strengthen IP protection, support innovators, and contribute to a dynamic, knowledge-based economy.
