RNB Live Discusses New Copyright Amendments and Tax Knowledge Exchange

The 41st edition of RNB Live, a weekly hybrid press and public engagement organized by the Radical New Bar (RNB), was held on Thursday, October 30 at ULS House, Kampala.

The session brought together key stakeholders and students to explore new developments in copyright registration and taxation practices.

Representing the Uganda Registration Services Bureau, Martin George Sseruwagi, a Regulation Officer, discussed the Copyright and Neighbouring Rights (Amendment) Regulations, S.I No. 73 of 2025.

He highlighted that the new regulations aim to simplify and streamline the registration process for copyrights and neighbouring rights, making it easier for creators to protect their works and benefit from their intellectual property.

At URSB, we are committed to the ongoing evaluation and assessment of the regulations we oversee. This ensures they remain relevant, effective, and beneficial for our stakeholders.

“At URSB, we are committed to the ongoing evaluation and assessment of the regulations we oversee. This ensures they remain relevant, effective, and beneficial for our stakeholders. As part of this process, we conducted a Regulatory Impact Assessment and engaged in extensive consultations with various groups, including collecting societies, the creative community, law firms, legal professionals, and the general public, particularly during discussions on the Copyright Amendment Bill.” Sseruwagi expounded.

The session also featured Edwin Echiba from The Tax Hub UG, who led a discussion under the Tax Nights Series theme, “Fostering Dialogue and Knowledge Exchange in Tax Practice.”

Participants joined both in-person and via Zoom, reflecting RNB Live’s continued commitment to promoting inclusive legal discourse and public awareness on policy developments affecting professionals and creatives alike.
