Transferring files using an Ethernet cable is one of the fastest and most reliable ways to move large files between two Windows computers, especially when internet access is slow or unavailable. This method is ideal for sharing documents, videos, system backups, or large folders within the office.
To get started, connect the two computers using an Ethernet cable. Modern computers automatically detect the connection, so no special cable is required. Once connected, ensure both computers are on the same network. You can confirm this by checking that they have similar IP address ranges.
Next, enable file sharing on both computers. Open Network and Sharing Center, turn on Network Discovery, and enable File and Printer Sharing. Then, right-click the folder you want to share, select Properties, go to the Sharing tab, and allow access to other users on the network.
On the receiving computer, open File Explorer, click Network, and locate the other computer’s name. You will see the shared folder and can copy files just like using a flash drive.
Using Ethernet for file transfer is faster than USB flash disks, more secure than online sharing, and very convenient for office environments. It is a simple yet powerful skill that improves productivity and reduces dependency on external storage devices.
