URSB didn’t become what it is today overnight. Its growth is part of Uganda’s journey toward a more structured and digital economy.
A Brief History
- Pre-1998: Business registrations were managed by the Registrar General’s office under the Ministry of Justice.
- 1998: URSB was officially established as a semi-autonomous government agency to handle registrations and related services.
- 2010s: URSB expanded its services to include intellectual property, marriage registration, insolvency services, and SIMPO.
- 2020s: URSB embraced digital transformation—introducing online business registration, IP services, and now the intranet.
