Last week, Ms. Adeline Kushemererwa, the Assistant Commissioner for Field Operations, conducted visits to URSB regional offices in Arua, Mbale, Gulu, and Hoima.
These visits, aimed at enhancing coordination between headquarters and field teams, and as small and medium enterprises (SMEs) continue to emerge and thrive across Uganda. Many of these businesses, however, still operate informally, presenting both challenges and opportunities for economic growth.
During her visit, Ms. Kushemererwa engaged in discussions with regional managers and field officers, focusing on the ongoing initiatives that promote business registration, compliance, and public education. The meetings provided a platform for identifying local challenges and sharing best practices aimed at improving service delivery and public engagement.
She also emphasized the importance of grassroots outreach, stating, “Formalisation is about empowering communities to access markets, credit, and government support. Our regional offices are the bridge between national policy and local impact.” Her comments highlight the critical role that local offices play in translating national initiatives into tangible benefits for communities.
With the current rise of SMEs, often seen as the backbone of Uganda’s economy, streamlining regional offices is essential for pushing towards formalisation and ensuring these businesses can thrive.
By actively engaging with local business owners and community leaders, the bureau aims to enhance awareness of the benefits of formalisation, thereby fostering an environment where entrepreneurs can access essential services provided through regional offices.
